Sustainability
Opera Queensland proudly partners with Griffith University’s Performance + Ecology Research Lab (P+ERL) to analyse and benchmark environmental impact. The OQ team will work closely with the P+ERL team to then find eco-creative solutions and opportunities for events to fosters awareness and shared responsibility across event operators and audiences for a environmentally sustainable future.
Since 2025, most Festival of Outback Opera were single use plastic free events with reusable shatter proof ‘glasses’ sold on site. Visitors are welcome to bring their own keep cups.
Where possible, Opera Queensland works closely with venues to provide general waste, recycling and bottle recycling bins. We kindly ask visitors to support our endeavors to minimise the ecological impact of the festival by supporting waste management initiatives and consider ecofriendly travel options when planning their journey to the Festival of Outback Opera.
